The Good, Words
Escape back to where you belong_image by marta

there is this place
i like to run to
that feels
real
soft
and sane
that exists just outside
the penitentiary walls
where they keep us
all good
dumb
and tame.

there is this place
i like to run to
where light’s
not made
in china
and birds – not clients
call
where god’s
verde grows
like a memo
that we can see
even with
our toes.

there is this place
i like to run to
so quiet
ears touch
echoes of echoes
and the sound
of the dawn
breaking
dreams
dribbling fears
off of your
bones.

so baby,
grab a hold
of my
big
juicy
poems
and let me take you
to this place i like to run to –
escape back
to where you
belong.

A poem by Creedence.

Inspired by a park just outside of an office building that I have spent too much of my life in.
